![]() Legends of Aria FAQ Are The Developers Active?Ĭitadel Studios essentially stopped working on Legends of Aria in 2020 and while they have rather cheekily announced they are working on two new games, including a sequel to the unfinished and beleaguered Legends of Aria, they have made little effort to maintain Legends of Aria or assure the community that their money was not wasted. While this does not make Citadel Studios Inc scammers, it certainly makes them appear to be woefully out of touch with their own community, and I would caution against backing future projects by the same developers, at least until they have proven themselves capable of delivering a polished and feature-complete product. Let that sink in despite Legends of Aria having never lived up to its potential, Citadel Studios were attempting to generate sales from the very community they had disappointed almost continually since the conclusion of their Kickstarter campaign. Less than a year after releasing the Legends of Aria: Dark Sorcery, Citadel Studios announced they were no longer working on Legends of Aria, but current players would be given the opportunity to test their upcoming games Codex and Legends of Aria 2. While this is a fair price, I don’t feel the developers of Legends of Aria deserve to be rewarded for how poorly they handled the game, and I wish that all proceeds from the Citizen’s Pass would go to the unofficial server communities who are keeping the game alive. While Legends of Aria does offer a free-2-play version, this package only offers players a limited account and access to the almost entirely dead official servers.įor players who want to interact with others, the Legends of Aria: Citizen’s Pass retails for £15.49 and grants access to housing, a larger bank vault, the ability to create a guild and access to unofficial servers. ![]() While expansions are common in the genre, it is usually polite to fulfil all your promises to backers (including the ability for anyone to create their own shard) before you start asking for extra cash, espcially when Legends of Aria (the game) is widely regarded as a terrible MMORPG, with a generic plot and lacklustre mechanics. In 2020, less than two years after leaving early access, and with many backers feeling like they had never been given the product they had paid for, the developers opted to release a paid DLC Legends of Aria: Dark Sorcery, which granted access to additional skills and a new dungeon. In addition, unofficial server owners have the ability to create their own unique classes, further differentiating their game world from Legends of Aria and its lacklustre lore. ![]() Players are able to select from a small list of default classes or create their own class by investing in skills and abilities that reflect their interests while this has been done many times before, it is always nice to see. When Legends of Aria moved to a new model (freemium), those of us who backed the game saw our original purchase severely devalued, with our £30+ packages automatically exchanged for the £15.49 Legends of Aria: Citizen’s Pass.Īs of August 2022, backers who paid over double for Legends of Aria: Citizen’s Pass access have not been refunded nor compensated in any way, and considering Legends of Aria is no longer in development, I wouldn’t hold my breath. While Citadel Studios eventually opened up access to more backers on a case-by-case basis, it was too little, too late, with many backers and server owners moving on from Legends of Aria, never to return. When Legends of Aria was still called Shards Online, it was marketed as an MMORPG that anyone who purchased a copy would be given access to create their own shard (MMORPG server).īecome a creator of worlds. It’s the first game that legitimately allows you to host and moderate not just a single game world, but an entire universe of connected game worlds with the potential to support thousands of users at one time. Customize every aspect of your servers’ gameplay experience from character development, to combat, to items and equipment, to monsters and AI.įor many, this was the main reason they backed Legends of Aria to begin with, only to be told much later that unofficial server tools were being restricted and the vast majority of backers would not be getting access to them.įor many early backers, this was viewed as the ultimate betrayal, as it resulted in backers being forced to either play on the lacklustre and sparsely populated official servers or play on one of the few unofficial servers who were lucky enough to receive access to the tools and access we all paid for. ![]() Just when you think it can’t get worse, Legends of Aria finds a way to get worse.
